PUBLIC TRANSIT & TRAVEL
Public transit runs seasonally and is limited in the area. Make sure to review before booking.
Getting to Jackass Hostel:
First take the YARTS from Fresno to Oakhurst. Once in Oakhurst, take the Madera County Connect (MCC) bus between Oakhurst and North Fork. The MCC schedule is limited and runs Monday-Friday only, so be sure to review the schedule before booking with us to make sure it works for you. https://mcctransit.com/
Traveling to Yosemite via public transit:
Though YARTS runs from the town of Oakhurst and back, it does not get back early enough in the evening to catch the MCC Bus back to North Fork (Jackass Hostel). You can take the MCC Bus to Oakhurst to catch the YARTS to Yosemite, however getting back to the hostel is an issue.
YARTS stops running for the season in September. There will be no public transit into Yosemite after that date from this gateway.
Use YARTS to travel between Oakhurst and Yosemite, you'll want the route along Hwy 41: https://yarts.com/routes/fresno-hwy-41/
Your stops would be Oakhurst Best Western or Oakhurst Fairfield Inn.
You may also look into booking a ride with Starlight Taxi. Please note, you must contact them in advance however they charge around $100 for a ride fro Oakhurst to North Fork. http://starlightoakhurst.com/
Once in Yosemite, enjoy the free shuttle. You can find information on that here: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/publictransportation.htm
If public transit does not work with your schedule, you may want to look into booking at the Yosemite Bug Hostel. It's on a different entrance, but they have a YARTS stop within walking distance with a much bigger YARTS schedule. Plus the owner is a good friend of ours.
