Our Story

When our friend and previous owner of Jackass Hostel, Scott decided to up and move to Belize, we (myself, Kim and sister Heather) jumped at the opportunity to bring the hostel back to life. The covid pandemic saw the hostel shut down for several years. During this time, Scott made new plans to explore Belize.

He handed the keys to us and we watched him leave for his next adventure with nothing more than a back pack, his dog Jack and a Jeep.

Lucky for us, Scott had created an awesome hostel vibe with a great history of happy guests. We needed only continue the good work and so we picked up where Scott left off.

Years ago, when Scott first opened Jackass Hostel, Heather was working as graphic designer. Heather in collaboration with Derrick Singh, designed the hostel logo you see now. Which made for the take over all that more exciting.

The name Jackass is historical to the area. Jackass’s were used to haul equipment and building materials around the region. Look at a map of the high country and you’ll find Jackass Lake, a Jackass Meadow and now Jackass Hostel.

As world travelers ourselves, it is important to us that we create a place that makes travel realistic and affordable for everyone. We love this historic house and are excited to share it by providing affordable lodging accommodations to travelers and backpackers.
